Ukrainian Independence Day Folk Festival 2022 at Tryzubivka Raised over $10,000.00 for Humanitarian Relief for the Victims of War in Ukraine.

On Sunday, August 28, a warm and pleasant summer day welcomed over 3,250 festival-goers to this year’s Ukrainian Independence Day Folk Festival, at the Ukrainian American Sport Center - Tryzubivka. The shady festival glade was adorned with the flags of the United States and Ukraine, and with the vibrant and colorful Ukrainian embroideries, folk arts and crafts, jewelry, emblems, motifs and wares displayed by the vendors.

Ukrainians, haling, directly or through ancestry, from nearly all regions of Ukraine, demonstrated solidarity with their homeland and with all fellow Ukrainians: Beautiful embroidered shirts and blouses, flags, Tryzubs, Ukrainian sports and thematic jerseys and our beautiful colors and language affirmed the presence of Ukraine’s immortal and immutable spirit, well before the concert had even started. Ukraine steadfast in ‘fight for Western civilization,’ say local faithful

As the Russian invasion of Ukraine enters its seventh month, local Ukrainian faithful remain more committed than ever to “a fight for Western civilization.”

“What’s going on in Ukraine is absolutely in the U.S.’s interest. That result directly affects what happens here,” said Eugene Luciw, president of the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America’s Philadelphia chapter and a member of Presentation of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church in Lansdale.

Luciw served as master of ceremonies at an Aug. 31 folk festival celebrating the 31st anniversary of Ukraine’s independence from the former Soviet Union. The gathering, which drew at least 1,000 attendees to the Ukrainian-American Sport Center (Tryzub) in Horsham, featured traditional Ukrainian music, dance, food and crafts, as well as appearances from Ukrainian-American community leaders and elected officials. Ukrainian Folk Festival celebrates independence through ‘veil of tears’

Hundreds came together Sunday in the Philadelphia suburb of Horsham to celebrate the 31st anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence.

The Ukrainian Folk Festival is an annual event, but organizers say this year’s festival holds a special meaning because it comes amid Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Organizers said it would honor the relationships created between Americans and Ukrainians as the U.S. lends a helping hand during the troubling time. Event emcee, Eugene Luciw, said the 2022 festival would be celebrated through “a veil of tears,” but it was important to celebrate Ukrainian culture.

“We’re also going to prove Moscow to be a liar, because we are a separate and distinct nation with its own language, its own music, its own dance and everything else … and nobody can deny us that freedom,” Luciw said. Read More >
